First thing this morning the special event insurance, which is a requirement for the planned march, has been solidified. The organizers approached close to a dozen companies over the last few weeks for coverage for the event to either receive no response back or simply rejected with the the statement:
“We can no longer provide coverage for political rallies beginning February due to the current political climate”
Is there something about this current administration that’s frightening the insurance companies? Could there eventually be a March For Insurance? LOL, who knows and that conversation is for an entirely different website.
Back to the main point, this is pretty exciting to have this one requirement wrapped up. Next is to receive approval from the Parks Board to assemble in Jenny Lincoln Park at the beginning of the march and then work with the Sheriff’s Department for the street closures.
With the uncertainty about the size and reception of the march from the residents in the Springfield area, we decided play it safe and go ahead and use the street to host the march attendees. That’s what the permit is needed for. If the march just used the sidewalks, no permit or insurance would be needed. We opted for the larger crowd and instead are takin’ it to the streets!
